Proof of your immigration status
Where to find it: Citizen: birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or passport. Resident: Green Card, both sides. Other status: passport with your I-94.
Your latest federal tax return (or the IRS transcript)
Where to find it: Your copy of the 1040, or request the transcript free at irs.gov. If you did not file: last month's pay stubs, a recent W-2, or SSA-1099.
Clear copies of each document, not originals
Where to find it: A copy shop, or your phone camera in good light with the whole document in the frame.

Letter from your employer on company letterhead
If you are employed
Where to find it: Ask human resources or your supervisor; it must be signed.
Letter or statement from your bank
If you will rely on your savings
Where to find it: At the branch or in the bank's app; a letter from a bank officer is ideal.
Proof of the value of other assets
Only if you count other assets you could turn into cash within 12 months
Where to find it: Bonds with serial number and owner, deeds, appraisals, or investment statements.
English translation of any document in another language
Only if a document is not in English
Where to find it: Anyone fluent in both languages can translate and sign the certification with their name, date, and contact details.
