What is the I-912 for?
The instructions describe three grounds: receiving a means-tested public benefit, having household income below a percentage of the federal poverty guidelines, or going through financial hardship.
Not every form accepts a waiver. The I-912 instructions list which ones do, and the official fee calculator confirms it for each.
Whether USCIS grants the waiver is its decision. If it denies it, it returns the whole packet to be filed with payment. Paso Libre does not predict that outcome.
Who usually files it?
- According to the USCIS instructions: a person receiving a means-tested public benefit, such as Medicaid or SNAP, who is filing a form that accepts a waiver.
- According to the USCIS instructions: a household whose income is below the percentage of the poverty guidelines the instructions set.
- According to the USCIS instructions: someone with a recent financial hardship — medical bills, unemployment — who documents it.
