What is Form I-751?

Form I-751 is the petition a conditional resident uses to ask USCIS to remove the conditions on their residence.

If USCIS grants it, the residence stops being conditional. It is a different filing from a card replacement, even though both end in a new card.

Conditional resident cards are valid for two years, not ten. Look at the dates printed on your card: that is where the difference shows.

The instructions describe two routes: filing the petition together with the spouse, or asking USCIS to stop requiring that signature when it is not possible.
