Question
My green card expired: what do I do?
Short answer
To renew a permanent resident card you file Form I-90; the USCIS fee is $465 on paper. If your card is a two-year card, the I-90 is not the form: USCIS points to the I-751.

Which form it is
The I-90 is the “Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card”. It is for renewing a card that expired or is about to.
The official page warns: if your card is a two-year card (conditional resident), do NOT file the I-90; the form to remove conditions is the I-751.
Families in this situation normally file this form. Paso Libre does not decide whether it applies to you.
While you wait
USCIS announced on September 18, 2024 that the I-90 receipt notice extends the card 36 months from its expiration date. Today's I-90 page does not repeat that rule, so rely on what your own receipt notice says.
What it costs
USCIS fee for the I-90: $465 on paper ($415 online). Paid separately to USCIS.
Paso Libre charges $99 to prepare the I-90 with you. You fill it in free and pay only when you finish your answers. USCIS fees are paid separately.
